Introduction and Background
Youth Peer Education Network (Y-PEER) is a youth network, initiated by United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in 2001, that is in more than 50 countries, working with/ linking more than 500 NGOs and GOs in Eastern Europe, Arab States, Central Asia and East Africa Y-PEER recently started to work in Latin America and Asia & Pacific. Its membership includes thousands of young people working in many areas surrounding Adolescent Sexual and Reproductive Health. Y-PEER is regarded as an
efficient and effective means of promoting youth participation in sexual and reproductive health issues, by its stakeholders.
Y-PEER International witnessed its expansion to Asia and Pacific region in 2009 through the launch of national Y-PEER Networks in The Fiji, Thailand, The Philippines and also in Pakistan through the support of UNFPA Asia and Pacific Regional Office in Bangkok and UNFPA Country Offices in these countries..
UNFPA Pakistan in collaboration with Chanan Development Association (CDA), a national youth-led organization working to empower young people and women employing arts based approaches, launched Y-PEER network in Pakistan on the occasion of International Youth Day 2009 and conducted 8 National Training of Trainers till yet.
More than 100 organizations from 65 districts of Pakistan are now members of Y-PEER while some 200 young trainers are serving the network as its “District Focal Points”.
The mission of Y-PEER is to promote a healthy life style through peer to peer approach and to empower young people to make responsible decisions. In past few years UNFPA has been increasingly recognized as UN lead agency in the area of programming with young people and particularly young people at risk. Within the framework of programming for young people, UNFPA globally has supported number of behavior change communication initiatives, including peer education initiatives in general and Y -PEER in particular.
Title of the Workshop and Duration:
The title of the training workshop is “9th National Training of Trainers (ToT) on PEER Education, Youth Participation & SRHR” and it will be held from 19th September 2012 (2:00 pm) till 23rd September 2012.
The workshop will be followed by the “3rd National Youth Peace Festival 2012 (NYPF’12)” and all the participants of the ToT MUST have to attend the 3rd NYPF’12.
Objectives of the Workshop:
The overall workshop objective is
➢ To build capacity of selected group of trainers to delivery high quality peer education programs
The specific workshop objectives include
1- Better understand the concept of skills-based health education and related peer-led health education methodologies
2- Learn methodologies to acquire and share accurate information about RH and sexual health issues, including HIV/AIDS.
3- Discuss own attitudes and values regarding SRH and HIV/AIDS, as well as health education.
4-Develop interpersonal and group communication skills.
5- Acquire the skills to facilitate a range of interactive methodologies used in the training of peer educators.
6- Acquire basic knowledge in peer education program development
7- Better understand stigma and other risk factors which increase young people’s vulnerability.
8- To promote positive attitudes that increase participants’ abilities to work as partners with both young people and adults.
9- Learn about Y-PEER Network, its structure, elements and roles as Y-PEER Members
10- Commemorate World Aids Day and acknowledge the contribution of young people for the prevention of HIV/AIDS in Pakistan

The National ToT as well as the NYPF will be held in “Lahore”
Who Can Apply?
Young people between 15-25 years who fulfill the following criteria can apply for the workshop.
• Must be a Pakistani National and living in Pakistan
• Available between the workshop and NYPF dates, i.e. 19th – 25th September, 2012
• Affiliated with an NGO/CBO, Network or educational institution working on youth issues using Peer Education
• Can read and write and have internet access (at least once a week)
• Have understanding of youth issues particularly Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights and HIV/AIDS
• Have worked or currently working as the Peer Educator with any Youth Focused NGO/CBO or Network
• Have sound believe in volunteer work
• Have the ability to work in a team particularly in diverse group
• Respect to other’s opinion, culture, faith, gender and also experience
• Willing to contribute to the development of the network in their district/province

Training Cost:
There is NO Training Cost and all the selected participants will be provided with the, Free Training Material, Travel (DAEWOO, BUS or TRAIN ONLY), and Accommodation and all the meals, HOWEVER, SELECTED PARTICIPANTS HAVE TO PAY the REGISTRATION FEE, i.e. Rs. 2,500 for the 3rd NATIONAL YOUTH PEACE FESTIVAL 2012.
CDA will deduct the REGISTRATION FEE from the TRAVEL of the PARTICIPANTS.
